๐ŸŒ Catch localization mistakes: new i18n tools!

Hey Canva App Devs :waving_hand:,

Weโ€™ve rolled out two updates to help your apps speak the right language everywhere.

:magnifying_glass_tilted_right: Review mode

You can now use Review mode to see exactly which strings will be translated before you submit your app. This gives you a final check to ensure nothing is missing.

How to access it:

  1. Preview your app
  2. Open the Dev Toolkit
  3. Go to App Localization > Preview language > Review mode

:warning: Common localization pitfalls

Weโ€™ve also spotted some common mistakes in app localization (think: strings missing from messages_en.json file, and other causes of untranslated content). To help you steer clear, weโ€™ve put together a handy guide: :backhand_index_pointing_right: Bad practices for Canva app localization

:red_question_mark:How is Review mode different from Pseudolocale?

  • Pseudolocale turns all formatted strings into แ€™แ€ผ~tฤ•ฤ—xt lรฎรฏkฤ“ฤ• thฤฏis~แ€™แ€ผ. Letting you test text expansion, and more. Importantly, it does NOT load from your uploaded translation file (messages_en.json), so you can test without reuploading. Best for development

  • Review mode loads and pseudolocalizes your messages_en.json - helping you spot strings missing from this file. Best for final checks.

:speech_balloon: Share feedback

Weโ€™d love to hear your feedback on these updates and the localization process in general. Share your thoughts, suggestions, or issues in this thread.

Happy localizing!
