Canva has a huge global audience, with more than half of the visitors to our Apps Marketplace using a language other than English. So, to help your app reach these audiences, we’re doubling the number of locales your app is translated into.
On top of English, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Turkish, apps will now also be translated into Arabic, Dutch, Italian, Malay, Polish, Romanian, Swedish, Thai, and Vietnamese. All for free!
How the translation process works
From today, uploading UI strings for translation will be a required step in the submission process.
We also strongly encourage anyone with an untranslated app in the Marketplace to submit their strings, as translated apps will be prioritized for promotion in places like the Featured and Trending carousels moving forward.
Wow, this is a big change. Does this mean we are required to create a brand-new product and go through the full review process again in order to apply the new translation workflow?
My second question: with the translation volume being doubled, will the translation turnaround time change as well, or will it still remain at 72 hours?
No, it means that every app that you submit moving forward would follow the new translation workflow. Any existing that you does not need to do this and can be submitted solely for translations.
The turnaround time for translation may improve, and it could take up to or less than 72 hours.
Hi @ruacon just to follow on from Gel’s post, if you’d like to resubmit your app for translation, please just write a note in the Testing instructions page to let us know there are no functional or design changes and that this is purely for additional translation. Then we can fast track you straight through to translation : ) Thanks so much!
