In celebration of all the AI features drops, we want to invite you, our favorite devs, to explore more ways to build Artificial Intelligence Apps for the Canva Apps Marketplace. We’ll dive into the Path with any Fill ability in the Design API, and look how easy it can be to take user inputs to generate AI images and easily add them in unique ways to a design.
Your First Quest
It’s an exciting time in the Generative AI space with new models, companies, and applications of the technology popping up every day. All of this tech doesn’t have to sit isolated or only available to tech experts. We at Canva are trying to make GenAI more approachable and accessible every day. And we want to empower every developer to bring their AI to those 150 Million Canva Users.
Your mission, if you chose to accept it, is to use Generative AI to design a new character for yourself (or your user’s input) in any style you can dream, or find a pre-trained model for. Think of comics style, Pokemon, abstract art, or Disney princess. There’s plenty of models available from platforms like HuggingFace. Once you have your image generated, bring it back into Canva and add it to a design in shape. Currently images are added as squares or rectangles, but did you know you can make other shapes with fill too? Try adding the characters in circles or triangles or any other shape that may fit into your design.

Submission & Deadline
To submit you entry for this quest, take a video of your app (in development mode is fine!) generating a new cartoon, and add it in a shape to your design. Post the video in the Quest #1 post in the Code Quest category. Please submit by or before Nov 8. We’ll reveal a solution in mid November.
