We are thrilled to officially announce the launch of Canva’s Connect APIs to GA, as well as a new Canva Developers homepage. As a result of this launch, you’ll notice a new category available for Connect APIs here in Discourse for any questions you may have.
Under the umbrella of the Connect APIs, we have launched the following new features to GA:
Designs API: The Designs endpoint lets you read a user’s designs, create a new design, and get metadata about a design.
Exports API: The Exports API allow you to export designs to a chosen format, allowing users to download and view their designs outside of Canva.
Assets API: The Assets endpoints let you upload assets (images, video, and audio) to a user’s Canva library. You can directly upload assets from the user’s local storage system, name and tag the assets, get information about the assets, or update and delete assets using this endpoint.
Alongside these features in GA, we also have launched the following APIs in preview mode:
Imports API: The Design Imports API let you import files into Canva from a range of applications, helping you bring your content to Canva without having to recreate your work.
Autofill APIs: The Autofill APIs let you create personalized designs using a brand template and input data. You can generate personalized invites, letters, training materials, pitch decks, marketing content, and more. View the documentation to get started with autofilled designs.

Hello,
I believe that the existing Canva App should continue to work right?
We had created a team app for testing in our sandbox and now when we are trying Edit the app it says “Integration not found”. Kindly, let us know
how do we create a new version for testing a new feature on our existing canva app?
From what I see Canva Apps will always be around for allowing 3rd parties to integrate their functionality into Cavna.
Canva Connect APIs are more for integrating Canva into 3rd party applications.
So both Apps as well as Integration will be supported by Canva. Kindly clarify.
Hi @ychitnis. Both Apps on Canva and Connect APIs integrations will continue to be supported by Canva. However, they will have a different build and submission process (all of which can be found at Canva.com/developers.
@sharqwy some cool ideas for using Connect APIs can be found in the resources tab of our Hackathon page.
The Apps SDK is for building INSIDE of Canva, while the Connect APIs let you access Canva resources like designs and assets OUTSIDE of Canva. They enable 2 different types of integration opportunity with Canva, so they are not interchangeable.
That’s fantastic news! and a significant step forward.
I just checked the API docs and noticed that to use the Assets API, you need the assetId parameter. However, the only way I could find, to get this assetId programmatically is through the Folders API, which is currently in preview mode (as described here).
This makes me wonder what iq the point of releasing the Assets API without the Folders API ? (At least the Designs API has a list-designs endpoint.)
Nonetheless, the new features and improvements are impressive, and I’m excited to explore the full potential.
You are able to access Asset IDs from assets you directly upload with the Connect APIs, but you are correct in that existing asset IDs are currently only found in the Folder API.
We wanted to release the Connect APIs to the public due to high demand as quickly as possible, without shipping APIs that may change. We are working to release more APIs to GA as quickly as possible, and Folders should be available in the coming months.
I had been waiting for the Connect API for a long time.
When it got released I was very disappointed to see that it is Enterprise only.
I participated in a survey and explained the need it for it clearly.
My team needs the Connect API in the context of team only just like our Canva App. We have no need to deploy either in the market place.
We want to use it as team only just like for Canva Apps.
Is there any chance this may change or should we forget using the capailities of the Connect API because we are not “Enterprise”?
