We’re excited to launch the Apps SDK in China! Previously apps could only be developed for canva.com. From today forward, you can now develop apps for Canva China (canva.cn) users :tada:

Our developer portal has been translated to support local developers.

If you are developing for canva.cn, we have added a new flag to this community to help us better debug your questions. Behind the scenes, canva.com and canva.cn operate differently, so indicating that you are building for canva.cn will help us troubleshoot your issue faster. If you are developing for canva.cn, please update your profile by doing the following:

  1. Under Preferences > Profile

Hi,

This might be a silly question. But I just want to confirm, developers who are not from China can still submit apps to canva.cn, right? Because all the information on the website is in Chinese :frowning:

What’s the monetization plan for Apps on canva.cn? Do they share the same innovation fund?

The dev portal is available in English, and yes, developers not from China can developer for canva.cn!

Hi, this is great. Is there any recommendations for where to host an app backend for .cn apps?

I used to go there frequently and many server things we hosted on US based AWS were really slow.

Can I know when the approval process for apps on canva.cn will begin?
The Canva Developers Innovation Fund still applies to apps on canva.cn, right?

If the Fund applies to canva.cn, one could get 5k on canva.com and 5k on canva.cn to get the first tier of reward?

Hi all - I checked with the team on how the Innovation Fund will work for canva.cn apps. As of now, Canva China Apps will not be eligible for Innovation Fund awards.

As for hosting, Apps will need to have their backend hosted in China, so we would recommend using services like Alibaba Cloud, AWS China, or Azure China.

Hi, @meredith we recently submitted our app to canva.cn, but we did not receive any progress update emails/jira like canva.com, such as requesting review information or status changed to Functional Review. Is this normal?

Hi @sai, it looks like automatic notifications are not set up on the China Jira instances. I will share this feedback with the team and see what we can do to improve it!
