We know you’ve been waiting for this one: App Templates!
Our first app template is for Content Apps, such as digital asset management (DAM) tools and existing content extensions. To check it out and start using it, clone the latest starter kit repo and use npm start digital_asset_management to start the DAM template.
For those with content extensions, you should have received a note that they are being deprecated and to migrate to the Apps SDK. These templates will make that transition even smoother.
Alright now you tell us: what other templates would you like to see from the Canva team?
Hello @meredith is there any way to migrate the existing users from the existing content extension to the new app? Else, with migration we’ll lose all our users on the existing app.
Hi @coral - at this point we are unable to migrate existing users, but we’re exploring solutions to make the transition easier for users. We’ll keep you posted about any migration plans!
If you have permissions to do so and are storing user contact info, we would recommend communicating to your users when the new app is available.
Unfortunately we make use of friction-less logic & thus don;t have contact info of our users. So, what worries me is the abrupt stop in the application as I can’t prepare them in advance.
Thank you for the feedback @coral - we hear this and are working on some options. I will make sure to share info here with any migration guides and plan we come up with.
Hi @coral, thanks for your patience! I have been chatting with the team internally about this. We have it on our roadmap to be able to link to your App Marketplace listing from the Share and Publish menu to be able to retrain and retain users as we start deprecating extensions.
Very keen to hear about this too. Earlier emails from Canva indicated that publish extensions would be deprecated today (12 August).
However that seems to have been pushed back.
Although in the marketplace and share menu you can now see a notification to the effect “This app is no longer supported….”
It would be great if legacy publish ext apps are able to link to their new app equivalents OR BETTER if new apps that have a publish focus are surfaced within the share menu design surface.
Love to hear more on this. We’ve been preparing a range of content and user journeys to help transition users but we are quite scared of large drop off when the publish app vanish!
If possible, please grant us a few more weeks before the app is deprecated. The current warning is good & helps avoid new users onboarding. But the old app needs to be slowly phased out & will appreciate if you can grant more time.
There will be more details provided shortly via email but to answer your questions, yes the removal date for extensions has been pushed back. Due to significant interest in rebuilding extensions with the Apps SDK the removal date has been pushed back until January 2025.
Now since the removal date is approaching, do you have an update on this?
What is the date for the content extension to be deprecated?
Will our existing users be migrated to the new apps?
If not, what will be the behavior? Will they see some error when they launch the app? Or will the app be hard deleted from their accounts & they will not be able to find it?
